Privacy and cookies

This page explains what information is collected when you visit this website, who collects it, and what you can do about it. It's short, because we collect very little.

Who we are

This website is run by the hosts of the Nerdist Camp podcast. If you have a question about this policy or your information, email us at the address at the bottom of this page.

Cookies

This website doesn't set any cookies for visitors. The only cookies it uses are for logging in to the site's admin area, which only the hosts use.

Visitor statistics

We use Tinylytics to count visits and see which pages and episodes are popular. Tinylytics doesn't use cookies or fingerprinting. It records the page you visited, the site that linked you here, your browser and device type, and your country, which it works out from your IP address without storing the address. We only ever see totals, never information about individual visitors.

The podcast player

The home page and episode pages show a play button for each episode. Nothing from Acast, the company that hosts the podcast, loads until you press it. When you do, the Acast player loads and starts the episode. The player doesn't set cookies, but it saves two small items in your browser's storage: your language setting, and a session token it uses to talk to Acast's servers.

Acast also receives your IP address and device details so it can stream the episode, count listens and, in some cases, play adverts. Acast handles this information under its own privacy policy.

Episode videos

Some episodes have a video on YouTube. The page shows a play button and the episode artwork, and nothing from YouTube loads until you press play, not even the video thumbnail. The video then loads from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, which doesn't set cookies until you play the video. Once it plays, YouTube may set cookies and receives your IP address and device details. Google handles this information under its own privacy policy.

Fonts and images

The site's fonts and images are served from this website, not from Google or another outside service.

Links to other sites

We link to Acast, Facebook, Instagram and other sites. Their own privacy policies apply once you follow those links.

Emailing us

If you email us, we only use your message and email address to reply to you. We don't share them, and we delete them when we no longer need them.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you can ask what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. As we don't collect anything that identifies you while you browse, this usually only applies if you've emailed us. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

If we change how the site handles information, we'll update this page. The date below shows when it last changed.
